In an ongoing discussion with a friend of mine, on the subject of whether or not there really is anything ‘new’ under the sun. I came across this verse in Lamentations a fitting start to a New Year:
“But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘therefore I will hope in him'” (Lamentations 3:21-24).
It speaks of God’s mercy being made new every morning. But what is the mercy of God if it is not Christ extended? The Cross given, the Tomb empty, the promised resurrection are they not His mercy towards us? Yet , we find Christ was crucified from before the foundation of the world. An ancient dream deposited into time, and discovered fresh with each sunrise to those whose eyes choose to see. Behold him, the God who makes all things new. The Ancient of Days tabernacles among men and opens their eyes morning by morning with a new expression of a timeless reality, God IS LOVE. He so LOVED. He Gave.
I desire to know this reality in a greater way this coming year. My hope is that this reality supercedes the present illusion of life and I learn to abide in the Mercy of the Lord.
